Grading Brain Tumors
Doctors have created a scale that measures the severity of the tumor. [2]
- Grade 1 : when the tumor grows slowly, and does not affect adjacent areas. This tumor is not cancerous. This grade has a high life expectancy. With the aid of surgery, they can be easily removed.
- Grade 2 This grade also includes non-cancerous tumors. They grow at a rate similar to grade tumors but are more likely to return after removal.
- Grade 4: The cells appear more abnormal. This is the cancerous stage, where the tumor has spread to the adjacent area. The cells multiply more quickly.
- Grade 4 : The growth rate of tumors reaches its maximum in this grade. The cells have an abnormal shape and appearance.
