Cancer Metastasis

Secondarily, brain tumors may develop when another tumor, which is located in another organ or tissue far from the brain and affects it, invades either the blood vessels or lymphatic vessels. This allows the tumor to reach the brain tissue. These tumor cells that have migrated can affect brain cells, causing a brain tumor. These secondary brain tumours are increasing in incidence by 10% compared to primary tumors. This complication is seen by 20-40% cancer patients each year. Some common cancers can cause brain tumors as a result of metastasis.
- Lung cancer
- Breast cancer
- Colon cancer
- Kidney cancer
- Skin cancer or melanoma
These tumors are most commonly found in the cortex of the brain, cerebellum, and brainstem.
