Sleep Disturbance
Sleeping patterns can be affected by brain tumors. The circadian clock regulates body activities by changing with the changes of the day. The suprachiasmatic node in the hypothalamus is responsible for maintaining it. The sleep-wake cycles can be affected by any tumors that disrupt the function of this brain part. About 90 patients who are undergoing radiation treatment experience hypersomnia, which is insomnia at night and increased sleepiness during the day. Sleep disorders like sleep apnea and resting-limb disorder are also common. Other physiological and psychological disturbances can also cause sleep problems in cancer patients.
