Precaution while taking a bath

People with atopic dermatitis must take extra precautions when bathing or showering, as detergents and other cleansers can irritate the skin and make it more sensitive. If an allergic reaction occurs, the skin condition will worsen. Therefore, non-soap cleansers are recommended, and they should not be applied directly to damaged skin. Soaps can also alter the acidity of the epidermis, making it more susceptible to damage. Thus, using these detergents can aggravate atopic dermatitis. It is improper for water to be so hot or frigid. One should not rub the epidermis roughly. To dry the skin, simply pat it with a cloth and avoid vigorously rubbing it with a brush or other hard object. After showering, apply a skin lubricant to secure the skin’s moisture, as it will create a barrier and prevent further dryness.
