Family History
A significant risk factor for the development of atopic dermatitis and other allergens is family history. There is a significant relationship between dermatitis and family history, which has been observed in numerous studies regardless of the type of study conducted or the protocol followed. The performed studies firmly suggested a relationship between family history and atopic dermatitis, despite the limited information available on the subject. Patients with atopic dermatitis were examined in a study, including 270 adults with skin disease and their 529 offspring. 60 percent of these children had a family history of topical dermatitis. The results indicated that the disease was equally prevalent among males and girls. 81% (48/59) of the afflicted children had a history of atopic dermatitis, while 56% (180/360) of the affected patients did not have a history of both atopic dermatitis and respiratory disease. In addition, 59% (88/149) had only a history of atopic dermatitis. According to the results, the mode of inheritance is autosomal dominant. In another study, 492 patients with dermatitis were examined, and the results revealed that 66% of patients had a family history of the disease. These studies suggested that, like numerous other diseases, atopic dermatitis may have a genetic component.
