Chronic Stage
The third and final stage of atopic dermatitis is characterised by persistent episodes. Typically, it takes nearly three months for this stage’s symptoms to manifest. The epidermis becomes thicker, and leathery craters appear on the surface. Long-term itching and scratching causes the epidermis to become dull and dark. Large areas of damaged epidermis. The epidermis appears extremely damaged.
Frequent scratching causes significant skin injury prior to this stage. At this stage, individuals are permitted to use harsher steroids, and the body should be covered and protected. Moisturiser should be applied, and the skin should not come into contact with allergens that could make the irritation incurable.
